Four-year-old leukemia patient “marries” her favourite nurse

leukemia patient marries nurse

An adorable four-year-old cancer patient had her dream wedding with none other than her favourite nurse.

Abby, who’s battling leukemia, told her mom matter-of-factly that she was looking forward to marrying one of the nurses – Matt Hickling – who works at Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, reports ABC News.

And naturally, like every mom who’s dying to see their daughter in a beautiful white gown, she told him.

That’s when he and the staff decided it was going to be a day to remember: they got cake, found Hickling a tuxedo t-shirt and had a local florist donate flowers.

All within 24 hours.

When little Abby arrived at the treatment center, she “shyly” asked Hickling for his hand in marriage, and he “didn’t hesitate to say yes.”

“This day will hopefully be one our patient and her family can always look back on and smile when days are tough!” Hickling wrote on his Facebook page, where he shared the story. “I know I will!”

Abby’s mom walked her down the aisle decorated with rose petals, and the physician, Dr. Jennifer Pearce “officiated” it.

“I got a huge hug and we sealed the deal with ring pops being placed on our fingers!” Hickling wrote. “We then took a stroll down the hall in our “Just Married” car and headed back into the room for cake and photos.”

And there, in the spirit of the day, one of the doctors helped the four-year-old slam cake into his face.

“Our patient stated ‘This is the best day ever’ while hopping around in her beautiful dress, veil and phenomenal bouquet,” he said.

And finally, what happened next, was the collective Internet awed.
