Wired's "WIRED Mech," a 9-and-a-half-foot-tall, 400-pound robot, has become a bit of a celebrity at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego.

The "aluminum and urethane behemoth" — a cosplay creation that takes the wearer up to 30 minutes to get securely strapped into — was built over 24 days by the Stan Winston School of Character Arts and Legacy Effects, the studio that created armour for Pacific Rim and Iron Man.

Stan Winston School recently uploaded a video of the intimidating robot meeting his match: a fearless little girl named Zooey.

"May I destroy you?" the robot asks her.

"No."

"Okay, let's be friends, then," the robot says, offering to be her bodyguard instead of her destroyer.

Watch the cute meeting below.
