Curious gopher lives under rocket launchpad in Kazakhstan

A gopher has gone viral on YouTube thanks to his odd choice of home location.

"We have the makings of a hit Pixar movie: A gopher on the steppes of Kazakhstan at a Russian cosmodrome," writes The Atlantic's Alexix Madrigal.

A curious little gopher popped out of the ground beneath the rocket launch pad at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, a Russian space facility in Kazakhstan, to investigate a still-filming camera left on the ground near the functional launchpad. Undeterred by the activity at the launchpad, the inquisitive gopher gnawed at the camera.

"Those readers wary of coincidences can happily postulate that this furry specimen is a top-secret breed of Kazakh security gopher, who gains his monstrous strength and cunning from exposure to experimental rocket fuel," io9's Cyriaque Lamar writes.

There's no word on the gopher's fate following takeoff.
