Ed Sheeran’s act of kindness ends friend’s financial troubles

Ed Sheeran is a pretty stand-up guy.

You probably know him as the British red-haired pop sensation that took the world by storm in 2014 with his hit “Thinking Out Loud.”

But to Amy Wadge, he’s the childhood friend who helped her pay off her mortgage, reports The Mirror.

Wadge is an old buddy of Sheeran’s, and she came to him when she was having financial troubles and asked if she could put a song from when he was younger on his upcoming album, x. While she was there, they came up with the aforementioned hit song.

It was released as a single on October 8, 2014 and within 24 hours of being posted, the video had achieved three million views.

The rest is history — the song hit number one in the UK and Spotify named Sheeran the world’s most streamed artist that year. For his friend Wadge, the writing credit means that her financial troubles are over — forever.

Sheeran told The Mirror:

She was going through financial troubles about a year ago. She drove to my house – my album was nearly done – and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album, so she could get a little bit of money and pay the mortgage and bills and stuff. While she was there, we wrote Thinking Out Loud. Now she never has to worry about money again. She’s got a family and two kids and stuff and every time I speak to her, she’s going on holiday. It’s really nice to see. It wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t come down from Wales to see me.

Sheeran, who also hosted Sunday’s MTV Europe Awards, is clearly more than just a talented and successful musician — he’s also a great friend.
