Elephant tenderly falls asleep to sound of soothing lullaby

Sangduen "Lek" Chailert, co-founder of the Elephant Nature Park in Chaing Mai, Thailand, lulls an elephant to sleep with a lullaby.

So, how do you get an elephant to go to sleep?

With a lullaby, of course.

At least that's the philosophy of Sangduen "Lek" Chailert, co-founder of the Elephant Nature Park in Chaing Mai, Thailand.

The park is one of the few animal rescue outposts in Thailand, a country with just 5,000 elephants from the estimated 100,000 that roamed the country a century ago.

Lek helped set up the sanctuary in 1996. Many of the elephants in the park have been beaten or blinded – because the best way to punish a misbehaving elephant is to stab it in the eye.

Lek treats each of the pachyderms like they are her children. And given Faa Mai's reaction to her lullaby, it's clear the elephants are fine with that arrangement.
