Fearless grandma, 82, skydives with grandson for her birthday

A New York Daily News writer gave his grandmother an experience to remember for her 82nd birthday - he took her skydiving.

It was a lifelong dream of Judy Wade's. The retired EMT had been writer Joe Kemp's "role model for living life on the edge," Kemp wrote.

"I grew up with her exciting tales of driving race cars and sitting in the cockpit of a stunt plane. She even taught me how to ride a motorcycle, taking me for my first ride when I was just six."

"I have one philosophy: You do the things you fear if you don't want fear in your life," Wade said.

Before strapping into her harness, Wade told her grandson, "The older you get, the better life gets — if you let it."

The 82-year-old grandmother says she was ecstatic at the idea, giggling as she prepped to jump.

The verdict: She would do it again.

"It was so beautiful," Wade said of flying through the air. "I don't think I'll be afraid of anything again."
