Helpful dog greets mailman, takes mail to owner

Mail carrier goes beyond the call of duty

Dogs and mailmen don't have the sweetest of histories — in 2011, nearly 5,600 U.S. Postal Service workers were victimized by dogs — but one delivery man considers a canine customer the best part of his day.

YouTube user bsgtrekfan88 posted a video of his favourite stop along his route. It quickly went viral.

"Who needs a mailbox?" billy_rufus asked on Reddit.

Commenters chimed in with their own stories of dogs and the mail.

"I'm a letter carrier in the Philadelphia suburbs, and I love the dogs on my route and they love me back. of course, a pocket full of peanut butter flavored dog biscuits helps!" CJfromPhilly wrote.

Dacos127 found the video bittersweet:

"My Golden used to do that, except our drive was 40 yards long. She would go down get handed the mail in the mouth, walk up the drive 10 yards, drop it and turn around and head back for a biscuit, which the mailman always brought. The only problem was the slight amount of slobber generated that ended up on the mail, but when it was cold or wet out, she did her duty which the family appreciated. I miss her so much it hurts!"

"I've told this story before, but my first dog, a Boxer had a special bond with our mailman. Everyday he (the mailman) would give her a dog treat. She was always so excited that she would wait at the end of the driveway each day around the time the mail would come, shaking like a leaf. Maybe because she was excited, but most likely because she was sitting on the line of the invisible fence. She was an awesome dog," redditor AlmostAGinger shared.

Does your dog like the mailman? Or is he more interested in trying to eat him?
