On Monday, BASE jumpers Fred Fugen and Vince Reffet jumped off the world's tallest buildingand set a world record.

"This was the jump of a lifetime and an achievement of three years of hard training. I am glad we landed successfully, accomplishing a lifelong dream," Fugen, 34, told the Arabian Gazette.

"This was my best jump by far. It was a dream come true," added Reffet.

In a stunt sponsored by the skydiving resort Skydive Dubai, the daredevils jumped from a platform above the pinnacle of the 2,717-foot Burj Khalifa, then soared around the impressive building with a trail of red smoke billowing behind them.

From the video, it appears their cameraman is perhaps the bravest of them all.

"People think that you BASE jump because you’re crazy, you like to get scared," Fugen said in the video. "But, I mean, we like to fly."

The duo told Gulf News that it took them a year to prepare for the big jump. They chose to jump early Monday morning to minimize the danger from strong winds.

"We didn't leave any room for error. We planned everything. For sure we were scared at first but we transformed that fear into power to achieve our goal," Reffet said.

"We feel happy for breaking the world record, but it wasn't the main goal. We've been dreaming about base jumping from this special place, this unique place for three years now," Fugen, 34, told Gulf News.
