Professional photographer Kimberli Ransom has breast cancer.

Since she started chemotherapy this summer, she's been documenting her battle with the disease through a series of unique photo shoots in a project she calls "Finding Beauty in Cancer."

"It inspires me to be real, to be authentic about what's happening," Ransom said of the project.

Ransom recently gave HooplaHa and videographer Erik Schultz behind-the-scenes access to a photo shoot called "Hard Candy," a sugary sweet shoot celebrating the "fun sides of life" in the midst of fighting the disease.

"Hard Candy, the concept that we can play with sugar and spice and all the nice, easy breezy aspects of life in a photo shoot when the other part of life, cancer, is so hard. It’s the flip side of what I’m actually going through," Ransom wrote on her blog about the shoot.

"This beautiful, joyful, pink shoot full of sugar and laughter is a break, a release, a reprieve from chemotherapy and how difficult parts of life are right now. It is really what this project is about. Finding beauty in something that doesn’t always feel or look beautiful."

"Cancer is hard and yet there are moments of pink, sugar and laughter in between," she wrote.

Ransom completed her chemotherapy last Thursday.
