Sir Stuffington wants your gold: one-eyed pirate kitten raises money for animal shelter

Sir Stuffington

is the cutest pirate you'll ever see.

The one-eyed kitten from Troutdale, Oregon, is dressed up in pirate garb for a good cause: to raise money for the animal shelter that saved his life.

Sir Stuffington was found in early September, suffering from severe facial injuries and several diseases.

According to the shelter's blog post, "In addition to being filthy, covered with fleas, and suffering from an upper respiratory infection, it was clear he had survived some sort of traumatic injury that caused a disfigured jaw and the loss of one eye. He also has a heart murmur and flea anemia."

Blazer Schaffer, from the Portland area, took in the kitten and his two brothers as foster pets for the Multnomah County Animal Shelter.

One day, Schaffer's girlfriend dressed up the kitten in an eye patch and hat. A photo of the pirate kitty quickly went viral.

Surprised by the enthusiastic response, the couple decided to make prints of the photo and sell them to help pay for other animals' treatments at the shelter.

All funds will go the shelter's Dolly Fund, which provides medical care for abandoned animals.

"I think people just see him and see that he's been through so much in his short little life and he's still positive and happy and wants to live," Schaffer told KPTV.

"And he's insanely cute to look at. He looks like a little pirate," she added. "That permanent snarl from the fractured jaw."

In the upcoming months, Sir Stuffington will undergo an operation on his jaw to make him more comfortable.

Following his recovery, he will be put up for adoption.
