Virginia Attorney General alerts trucker to fire, helps her escape burning rig

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli explains

On Friday afternoon, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli was on his way back to Richmond after a meeting when he and his driver spotted a flatbed trailer from Kentucky with its back tires on fire as it drove along the interstate.

Cuccinelli's driver, Cory Chenard, honked at the truck's driver and motioned for her to pull over. She did.

Both men got out of the car to assess the situation.

"I skipped by the cab back to the back of the truck and, sure enough, it was still on fire," Cuccinelli told NBC 12, adding that the driver was unaware of the fire. "It looked like her brakes locked up and one of the wheels was burning."

"Given where it was it was hidden from her view, you know, even in the side mirrors she couldn't see flames," he said. "The flames were underneath."

Cuccinelli found a fire extinguisher and helped put out the flames while Chenard called for help. The men stayed with the driver until emergency crews arrived. She was in serious pain due to an injury unrelated to the fire, but didn't need to be taken to the hospital.

Cuccinelli didn't catch the driver's name, nor did she seem aware of who he was.
