Alanis Morissette joining ‘American Idol’?

There's going to be havoc and bright lights, but Alanis Morissette seems to be prepared.

The Ottawa native, who releases her new album "Havoc and Bright Lights" at the end of the month, may be the new fourth judge on "American Idol."

Morissette started the rumour herself yesterday morning during a radio interview with CBS.

"I'm in talks with somebody right now," she said. "I can't name any names, but I'm pretty excited at the thought of doing it more formally."

Though the 38-year-old "Guardian" singer claims she still has to "investigate further," she has already had experience on the show. Two years ago, she took the stage in season nine's finale with runner up Crystal Bowersox to sing a duet of her hit song "You Oughtta Know."

Two judging spots opened up on "Idol" last month when both Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced they were departing the judges' table. Mariah Carey took the first opening at the end of July (despite husband Nick Cannon's protests), but the second place remains vacant.

Do you think Morissette should take the gig?
