Are we doing enough to keep Canadian malls safe?

Another fatal shooting at another Canadian shopping mall has the issue of public violence back in the spotlight.

One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting at Toronto's Yorkdale shopping centre over the Easter weekend. Police continue to investigate the attack, but believe it began as a fight between two rival groups.

The shooting comes less than a year after the very public shooting at Toronto's downtown Eaton Centre in which one person was killed and several more bystanders were injured.

In that, and other similar instances, the violence began between rivals and spilled into the public sphere. With similar instances of violence occurring in malls, streets and public transit across the country, questions have been raised about how much is being done to ensure public safety.

Do you think we are receiving enough protection from violence in public places? What more should be done to ensure malls and shopping centres are safe?
