Customer’s Dunkin’ Donuts Rant Goes Viral for All the Wrong Reasons

You've heard the adage "The customer is always right." Now, thanks to the power of social media, never has it been easier to shower praise on or file a complaint with a company for the entire world to see. One customer is causing outrage over a video she took of herself while complaining about an allegedly rude worker at a Dunkin' Donuts.

In the video, recorded on the woman's cellphone, she tells the employee behind the counter (not the employee she is there to complain about) that her experience the previous evening was not good and that she's there to get what she believes she is owed, a free meal. She complains about not being given a receipt for her purchase and says she is thereby entitled to free food. She tells the employee several times she is recording everything they're doing and going to put it online.

The employee remains calm even as the woman begins raising her voice and berating him to describe her displeasure with what happened. She does mention she has previously written many good reviews for this shop's location and she used to like coming there.

The employee, trying to appease the woman, tells her, "Whatever you want, I will get it for you." As the young man rings up the new order, the woman says, "I can't wait to post this on Facebook as soon as we're done." She then flips the camera around to herself and says to it, "Hi, Facebook. This is what you have to do in life." She then notices another customer standing nearby and informs him that she is recording and that she is going to post the video to Facebook. The man shrugs and acts as if he's not interested.

The video goes on for more than eight minutes, and the situation becomes ugly when toward the end the customer swears even more and starts using racial epithets. Her attempt to make this particular Dunkin' Donuts famous for bad service has backfired, drawing comments such as, "this actually makes Dunkin Donuts look way better" and "that is really sad and disturbing."

The video has surpassed 220,000 views and continues to climb on YouTube, more from people's outrage over the woman's behavior than for anything else.

Due to the attention the woman has received since posting the video to her Facebook account. She has since deleted it. The Smoking Gun has uncovered her identity.

The lesson here? Even though it is easy to make a public complaint these days, make sure it's valid and you handle the situation with class.
