Body removed from Hog's Back near search area for Ottawa man

A body was removed from the waters near Hog's Back Falls on April 24, 2014. Investigators examined the body, but it could take days to identify it.

Ottawa police and firefighters have removed a body from the Rideau River at Hog’s Back Falls but it has not yet been identified, police say.

On Thursday, police and firefighters responded to the falls after a body was spotted in the water near an area where police were searching for a missing 66-year-old man.

This comes two days after police searched the falls for retired Ottawa photographer John Davies.

Davies was last heard from on April 3, according to Ottawa police. A police report was filed by Davies's sister, Darlene, on April 17 and days later police found Davies’s Honda Civic at Hog’s Back Falls with his camera bag in the car, but no camera.

On Tuesday, police launched an emergency search near the falls, which is near Carleton University and Mooney’s Bay Park in central Ottawa.

Davies is described as white with short blond and grey hair, 5'9" tall, medium build with a reddish grey beard.
