Boiling Point writer Roanne Bardsley is reportedly developing a new project for the BBC.

As per Deadline, Bardsley will adapt Claire McGowan's novel What You Did, with the adaptation being conceived as a limited series should it get the greenlight.

McGowan's novel follows six university friends who reunite after 20 years apart, with matters taking a turn for the worse at the gathering. After one of the group, Karen, claims that she has been assaulted, the group are shocked to hear the identity of the accused - the host Ali's husband Mike.

The differing viewpoints of Karen and Mike on the events call into question who the group should believe and brings old memories to the surface that shed a darker light on their shared university history.

Bardsley, who has credits on Everything Now and Screw, contributed to the scripts for Boiling Point, a four-part continuation of the 2021 film of the same name.

The series picks up roughly nine months after the events of the film, with Carly (Vinette Robinson) now running a restaurant as Andy (Stephen Graham) struggles with his mental health.

"With the pressure to draw in new, hungry customers and the financial squeeze to keep the business profitable, the team must find a way to manage their complicated personal lives whilst creating quality food day in, day out," reads the logline for the series.

The original film won acclaim for its editing, which utilised a one-shot technique, but the series has eschewed the bold style for something more familiar, with Graham explaining the decision to pivot away from a continuous shot.

"Although we have hung up our feature-length one-shot boots, our audiences can still be excited by extraordinarily lengthy shots and camera techniques that will complement the pure naturalism that was the essence and soul of the film," he said.

What You Did is yet to receive a release window, while Boiling Point airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
