Bowness stabbing victim identified, one man charged

Calgary police have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the city's northwest neighbourhood of Bowness.

Sean Michael Barber, 54, of Calgary, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was determined after an autopsy on Wednesday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Investigators have determined he was killed during an altercation at the residence where he was found.

At approximately 3:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, police responded to reports of a disturbance in the 7700 block of 41st Avenue N.W.

On arrival, officers discovered a man who appeared to be suffering from stab wounds.

Police took two men who were present at the scene into custody, but announced today they have only charged one of them.

Dennis George Hart, 52, has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the incident. He will appear in court on Friday, Sept. 15.
