Brother wants answers about how John Wifladt died

RCMP lay murder charge in John Wifladt death at Sunridge Place

The family of a Yellowknife man who died after being found seriously injured last weekend says they are still waiting for information from police on how he died.

John Wifladt, 39, and another man, Colin Digness, were found injured and unconscious in an apartment on the third floor of Sunridge Place on 51 Avenue on Sunday.

Digness is in his early 40s and has a young son. He was medevaced to Edmonton where he is recovering in hospital.

Tommy Wifladt, John's brother, says he learned about his brother's death on Sunday but hasn't been told much else.

He says all police will tell him is that his brother succumbed to his injuries. Police told the family they aren't yet able to say what those injuries were or what caused them.

Wifladt had been with his brother and Digness the night before the two men were found.

"This is the worst time in my life," he said. "This is just devastating. I was so shocked."

On Tuesday, Wifladt went to check on his brother's house.

"I went there yesterday, first time since his passing," he said. "I just started crying. All his stuff's in there. Couldn't hang out there, too shocking. His truck's parked outside. It looked like he shovelled on Saturday night."

The Chief Coroner of the N.W.T. says a forensics autopsy is still underway. The RCMP are investigating and say they are unable to release any more details.
