Budweiser Is Being Renamed ‘America’ Until November

You won’t be able to crack open a bottle of Bud this year as a name change means it won’t even exist.

Before you panic, you’ll still be able to sup on a cool Budweiser whenever you want but from May until the end of the US presidential election in November, it will official be known as ‘America’.

We’re now in May, so this is no April Fools’ joke - cans and bottles of the US favourite will be renamed in order to “inspire drinkers to celebrate America and Budweiser’s shared values of freedom and authenticity”.

From May 23, the bottles and cans will also feature iconic American symbols like the Statue of Liberty, as well as lines from the Pledge of Allegiance and lyrics from country’s national anthem.

Budweiser (based in Belgium, natch) think that the temporary change is the perfect was to celebrate all things American.

Brewer Anheuser-Busch’s vice president, Ricardo Marques, said: “We are embarking on what should be the most patriotic summer that this generation has ever seen, with Copa America Centenario being held on US soil for the first time, Team USA competing at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump seemed to take credit for the branding rename, telling Fox And Friends: “They’re so impressed with what our country will become that they decided to do this before the fact.”

No doubt a fair few American voters will have something to say about that in November.
