Buskerfest, Tamil Festival bring weekend road closures

As summer starts to wind down, so does the number of street festivals in and around the city which might offer some relief for drivers.

Still, beginning Friday, there are two areas drivers might want to avoid if you are driving.

BuskerFest, which began Thursday and wraps up Sunday, takes over several major downtown streets.

Yonge Street will be closed from Richmond Street to College Street from Friday to midnight Sunday, Other streets including Dundas Square, Walton Street, Gould Street, Edward Street and Elm Street will also be closed.

As well, Toronto's first ever Tamil Festival happens this weekend in Scarborough, with some roads closed for the festivities.

Morningside Avenue from Finch Avenue East to Neilson Road will be closed in both directions from Saturday at 6 a.m. to Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Those who need to drive in the general vicinity of either of these events are advised to allow extra time to get to and from their destination, according to the city information posted online.

In non-festival-related street closures, the intersection of Don Mills Road and O'Connor Drive will be fully closed in all directions for road resurfacing and sidewalk repairs from Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

During the closure, the two ramps from the DVP to southbound Don Mills Road will be closed. Vehicles travelling south on Don Mills Road will have access to the southbound DVP, all other traffic will be diverted at Overlea Boulevard.

Traffic travelling eastbound on O'Connor Drive will be detoured at Donlands Avenue, and westbound traffic will be diverted at Coxwell Avenue.

Pedestrian access to businesses and walkways will be maintained throughout the closure period.
