“Buying Beverly Hills”: Mauricio and Kyle's Daughters Break Down After Learning Parents Are Separated and Dating (Exclusive)
"Our life has just changed so much," Richards and Umansky's daughter Sophia says
Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky are in the midst of a family reckoning.
In In PEOPLE's exclusive sneak peek at the premiere of Buying Beverly Hills season 2, Mauricio sits down with his three oldest daughters — Alexia, 27, and Sophia, 24, and Farrah Brittany, 35 (who is Kyle's daughter from her first marriage) — to tell them that he is officially separated from their mother.
"I had an amazing 26 years with your mom, an amazing 26 years," he begins. "I wanted to do everything possible to just save it."
That said, he adds, "I think I need space."
According to Mauricio, Kyle defined the "rules" of their separation, telling him: "You go out, you date, you do whatever it is that you want to do."
He tells his daughters that his wife, 55, told him, "I'm not going to be asking what you're doing, I don't want you to be asking me what I'm doing ... we are separated."
The girls look on, sad and quiet, as Mauricio tells them he might go spend a month in Aspen to clear his mind.
Upon absorbing the news of her parents' new status, Sophia breaks down in tears. "Our life has just changed so much," she says.
Farrah agrees, saying she wouldn't have predicted she'd be having this conversation a year ago.
"We only even found out that there was any issues just a few months ago and now it just is like ... things change so quickly," Sophia continues through tears.
Alexia remains quiet throughout most of the scene before saying, "I'm sorry that we're all going through this," prompting her father to agree that the situation is hard "for all of us."
PEOPLE first shared the news of Kyle and Mauricio's separation in July, with the couple breaking their silence later that night with a joint Instagram statement in which they admitted they were facing the "most challenging" year of their marriage.
On Sunday, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star told PEOPLE at the 2024 People's Choice Awards that she and her husband still don't know what the future holds.
“We're a family no matter what, and we love each other, and we're just trying to figure it out. So right now, it's not on pause,” she said. “We're actively navigating through this and working through it.”
She added, "We're not going to be in this situation forever, whichever way that goes. Time will tell, probably sooner than later, but we're hanging in there. The good thing is we get along well, and we were at an event last night together with the family. And I don't know, it's been working for us. It's kind of strange, but hey, like I said, we're family no matter what."
