Calgary police have charged a second man in connection with a historic double homicide that happened in the city in the summer of 1994.

Nearly three decades ago, on July 11, 1994, two people entered a residence in the 2500 block of 10th Avenue S.E. and shot and killed two men in their mid-20s, police say.

The sale of marijuana from the residence was believed to be a motive.

Many years later, police made their first arrest in the case, charging Leonard Brian Cochrane, 51, with two counts of first-degree murder in 2019.

On Friday, police announced charges against an alleged accomplice.

Stuart Douglass MacGregor, 54, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Police said he is expected to next appear in court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a decision in Cochrane's trial is expected later this month.
