Call the Midwife star Helen George slams body-shaming Twitter troll
Call the Midwife star Helen George has hit back at online trolls who attempted to body-shame her.
The actress, 33, hit out at nasty comments she’d received in regards to her looks, after one person in particular caught her attention for negatively speaking about her.
During filming of the BBC series she was pregnant with her first child, but that didn’t stop some viewers from taking a swipe at the star for having put on weight.
The offending tweet read: ‘Helen George is massive. She should be put on a diet. #callthemidwife’.
And Helen didn’t shy away from confronting the online troll, sharing a retort for her 53,000 followers to see.
‘Sorry if my chins offended you, I chose to feed my baby healthily and not starve myself in a selfish act to look good on tv. Would you say this to a pregnant lady’s face? You should look on pregnant ladies multiple chins with love, they are busy making the future x’

But the online abuser wasn’t finished there. They went on to tweet to her fans who were defending her.
While some tweeted him back saying ‘she was pregnant at the time…’, the troll simply antagonised her fans even more with comments such as ‘Mmm, obviously used it as an excuse to gain all them chins. #callthemidwife’.
Sunday’s show (11 February) saw her character, Trixie Franklin, leave the series as part of her alcoholism storyline. During the episode Sister Julienne (played by Jenny Agutter) offered her a leave of absence of six months, which she took.
The break is so the new mum can spend some time with her baby and, to maintain the illusion of the programme, not have her character pregnant – which would make no sense to the current plot.
Speaking to Hello, she revealed: ‘I was pregnant in the series, so you just kind of see me walk across the screen sometimes with odd fashions, or I’d sit down a lot, or I’m wearing lots of capes.’
‘It wasn’t a correct storyline to choose for the character, as well. It wasn’t right for Trixie to be pregnant. So we just did our best to cover it up.’
