Wales Home in Eastern Townships raises record $894K

The annual fundraising campaign at the Wales Home, a seniors residence and care centre in Quebec's Eastern Townships, raised $894,000 on the weekend, far surpassing its $450,000 goal.

"It's the largest amount recorded in the Wales Home history, since 1921," said Jordan Arshinoff Foss, honorary chairman for the Wales Home Foundation's fundraising campaign.

Funds were raised through private donations and various activities, including an annual golf tournament and a candle ceremony in memory of residents who once lived at the care centre.

The Wales Home is a fully English-speaking facility, founded by Horace Pettes Wales to provide care for the elderly.

It operates as a private non-profit organization.

BrendaleePiironen, executive director of the Wales Home, said the foundation's main purpose is to help with capital improvements.

"They really help to enhance what we do, and make sure that we have the tools that we need, in place, in order to be the best," she said.

The Wales Home Foundation recently invested in two new shower rooms adapted to seniors and a new examination table for the doctor's office.

There are currently 178 residents living at the Wales Home, which is nestled in the hills of Cleveland, Que., about 45 kilometres north of Sherbrooke.
