Maddie Lymburner is keeping it real when it comes to social media.
In the clip, the Waterdown, Ont.-native flexed her arms and posed for the camera in her workout studio. She wore a turquoise Set Active sports bra with black spandex shorts. To accessorize, Lymburner chose tiny hoop earrings and a glitzy belly button ring, while her light brown locks were pulled into a loose braid.
As the video progressed, the 26-year-old twisted her body to flaunt her toned physique. She transitioned to show herself sitting on the floor putting her tummy rolls and cellulite on full display. The words: "What they show you...what they don't show you," appeared on the screen to let fans know that the bodies they see on social media are curated.
"Let’s check ourselves at the beginning of this week and make a promise to stop comparing ourselves to what we see online," she began in the caption.
The fitness star went on to explain that although social media has its perks, it can be harmful to our mental health.
"This is such an important message — social media becomes extremely dangerous when we start to believe that everything we see is real. Pictures, videos, TikToks and all of the things in between lack context and show snippets of peoples lives that are perfectly constructed," she continued. "It’s fun to enjoy social media but always remind yourself that constantly comparing your life to other peoples lives will rob you of your own potential and happiness."
Fans loved the transparent post and thanked Lymburner for exposing the realities of the online world.
"Thank you Maddie, I needed to see this today," wrote a follower. "You always know what to post!"
"This! Self-love is a journey but we can start by appreciating our bodies!" raved another.
"This is hands down why you are my favourite human to lead my workouts! You are so real, strong and awesome! I never would've thought you had rolls too!" shared someone else.
"Thank you for your transparency! You are promoting truth and health with your posts! Hats off to you!" said another.
