An open water swimming spot is to reopen in Canary Wharf’s business district this weekend for a third summer.

The facility first opened in 2022, but has returned to the Middle Dock following high demand, according to the Canary Wharf Group which have partnered with session organisers.

Sessions will begin on Saturday and are due to run until October.

They have been arranged for Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays during July, despite slots being “limited for now” due to the recent drop in temperature, organisers Love Open Water said.

They noted that the water quality at Canary Wharf has been “regularly tested and the water quality has consistently exceeded the minimum requirements for bathing standards.”

Despite concerns raised over the high level of E.coli discovered in the river Thames last week, the Canary Wharf oasis is said to be “completely clean and safe to swim in.”

To ensure safety during the slots themselves, every session is to be lifeguarded.

Open water swimmers over the age of 10 are able to join and all swimmers must wear brightly-coloured head wear and a bright tow float in the water regardless of ability.

To use the Middle Dock, Londoners and visitors must buy an annual National Open Water Coaching Association (NOWCA) membership for £15, granting users access to more than 40 locations across the UK, as well as personal accident and injury insurance.

Swims at Canary Wharf cost £9 per visit.

Coaching sessions are also available for those looking to improve technique and build confidence in the water.
