Canopy repaired at Shakespeare Festival

The Freewill Shakespeare Festival will go on under dry conditions now that the pricey new canopy in Hawrelak Park has been repaired.

Earlier this month, actors performing with the festival noticed water dripping onto the stage during rehearsals.

The $400,000 canopy was new and installed last year to replace the old canopy that was there before.

The cost to repair the new canopy was covered under warranty.

"It's been such a dry spring so I think we finally got the right conditions to realize the one seam had a bit of a gap in it," said Roger Jevne with the city of Edmonton.

"It's unfortunate it happened but it's one of those things," he said.
