Pedestrian killed by car that jumped curb after crash in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle which crashed into the Vancity Corner Store in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. (Liam Britten/CBC - image credit)

One person is dead after two vehicles collided in the middle of an intersection on Thursday, causing one of them to crash into a corner store in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

A pedestrian on the sidewalk was killed when the car jumped the curb after crashing into another vehicle at East Hastings and Columbia streets at about 10:50 a.m. PT., police said.

The car came to a stop after ramming into the Vancity Corner Store on East Hastings. First responders tried to save the pedestrian's life, but they were unsuccessful, according to police.

Both drivers involved in the collision remained at the scene, the Vancouver Police Department said. They are investigating the incident. No further information has been released about the cause of the crash.

Investigators are asking for witnesses and drivers with dash-cam video to call 604-717-3012.
