Parents leave car running to go to store, thief steals it with little boy inside

Police seek suspect in Mississauga nightclub shooting that injured 2

A two-year-old boy who was in a car stolen in Brampton Friday night has been found in a parking lot after his parents left him in the running vehicle, Peel police say.

Around 9:45 p.m. Friday, police tweeted that a child was inside a car, described as a black Mazda CX7, that had been stolen.

About 30 minutes later, the child was found in a parking lot in the Highway 401 and Steeles Avenue area after a passerby saw the child alone and called police, Const. Aharinder Sohi told CBC News.

Police were then able to reunite the child with his parents, who had left the car running with the air conditioning on while they went into a store.

When they returned from the store, the car was gone along with the child.

The vehicle has not yet been found and there is no word on a suspect description. The car's licence plate is BYBP371 and it was last seen heading north in the area of 57 Kennedy Road North.

The child's parents will not face any charges, Sohi said.
