A popular Charlotte brewery is permanently closing.

Catawba Brewing Co. shuttered its location in the Belmont neighborhood after six years. The Charlotte outfit was one of four locations across the Carolinas for the company.

2. NC pilot, passenger identified after fatal plane crash into Lake Hickory

The two men who were killed in a plane crash yesterday in Hickory were identified this morning.

A single engine planed crashed into power lines and then into Hickory Lake in Catawba County, killing the pilot and passenger.

3. Charlotte wants housing to replace vacant school. Jewish cemetery is wary of city’s plans

The Hebrew Cemetery of Greater Charlotte has eyes on expanding and providing burial space for the next 150 years, but it’s worried about the potential sale of an adjacent school to the highest bidder for apartments or a mixed-use development. The cemetery is one of the more prominent Jewish cemeteries in North Carolina.

The Jewish cemetery that’s the final resting place for Charlotteans such as Leon Levine faces a potential space crunch.

An adjacent property is the target for redevelopment by the city for mixed-income housing. Leaders of the Hebrew Cemetery of Greater Charlotte say they’re disappointed in the possibility the city will sell the former site instead of a possible expansion of their own.

4. New agave-focused restaurant Mexican restaurant coming to South Boulevard

The Matador, a Mexican restaurant, is opening its first North Carolina location right here in Charlotte. Recently, The Matador opened a location in Charleston to go along with existing ones across the Pacific Northwest.
