Charlotte-area high school soccer teams flex muscle in NCHSAA 4A playoffs on Monday
A team from the Charlotte area will play in the NCHSAA 4A state championship game next week.
Monday, Charlotte-area teams faced each other in west regional semifinal games, and now the western Final Four is set.
South Mecklenburg beat Porter Ridge, 2-0; Ardrey Kell beat Cuthbertson, 3-1; Weddington beat Independence, 2-1 in overtime; and Hickory Ridge beat Lake Norman, 2-0.
That means Thursday’s regional semifinals shape up like this:
▪ South Mecklenburg, a No. 24 seed in the playoffs, is two wins away from the state championship.
The Sabres (14-6-3) will play at SoMECK conference rival Ardrey Kell (19-2-5).
It’ll be the third meeting between the teams. Ardrey Kell won the first in overtime. The second one ended in a tie after overtime.
▪ The other regional semifinal is Weddington (16-3-3) at Hickory (16-2-5).
The winners of Thursday’s game will play in the 4A West Regional Championship game, or state semifinal, on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The state final is Nov. 17-18, likely in the Raleigh area.
