Charlottetown Legion building for sale

Charlottetown Legion hosts one last dance at old ballroom

Dwindling membership and financial struggles have prompted the Charlottetown Legion to put its building up for sale.

The three-storey building on Pownal Street has housed Branch Number One for more than a half-century.

P.E.I. Provincial Command has taken over the operation and decided to put the building on the market. President Gilles Painchaud says the Branch has a number of options if the sale goes through.

"It could be to buy a smaller building, rent a place for a period of time to see how we're doing, or possibly, again depending on what kind of sale we get, we could look at possibly becoming a tenant," said Painchaud.

The Legion plans to stay in the capital city, he said.

Painchaud said the building is in good shape, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations over the past few years.

The asking price is just under $1 million.
