Trump administration pins target on B.C. wine sales

On The Coast's master of wine Barbara Philip says B.C. has one of the best wine markets in the entire world.

"We have our own dynamic industry, plus we have access to wines from around the world," she told On The Coast host Stephen Quinn. "The selection is huge and constantly changing."

Philip says that constantly changing market doesn't just benefit lovers of fine wine: budget wines constantly have new offerings too.

Here are her picks for wines under $25 that are new to B.C. shelves.

Côté Mas. Rosé Aurore. Languedoc. France. 2016. $13.99

"This Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah blend is a charming pink treat that will match with fresh salads, seafood or soft cheeses on the patio. It is a crazy value at $13.99 for a litre bottle!"

Barone di Valforte. Passerina. Abruzzo. Italy. 2015. $17.99

"It is impossible to keep track of all the indigenous grape varieties of Italy but it really is fun to try. This brand new Passerina — that's the grape variety — is fresh, moderately aromatic and a touch mineral."

Bollini Chardonnay. Trentino. Italy. 2015. $19.99

"This crisp and pure Chardonnay comes from close to where some of my favourite sparkling wines are made in Italy (Trento DOC). It has subtle aromas of toast, white flowers and citrus. Think of having it with grilled chicken or meatier fish."

Giocato Sauvignon Blanc. Slovenia. 2016. $21.99

"Imagine a Sauvignon Blanc with the vibrancy of New Zealand but the wet stone notes of the Loire Valley. Chill it down and offer a unique glass of crisp white as an aperitif at your next dinner party."
