Chiawana boys roll to regional wrestling title. 11 head to WA championships in Tacoma

Chiawana had seven individual champions last Saturday to dominate the Class 4A regional wrestling tournament in Sunnyside.

The Riverhawks scored 254.5 points to take the team title, while Sunnyside was second with 196 and Richland third at 110.

Chiawana’s Lane Hedrick, a senior at 285 pounds, pinned all three of his opponents to earn his title.

Teammates Mason Tovar (165) pounds and Landon Bolson (215) also swept through with three pins each.

Other Riverhawks to win were junior Daeton Johnson at 138 pounds, senior Anthony Pina at 106, junior Adrian Shima at 120, and Jordan Tobias at 144.

Tobias won his 100th career match just a week ago.

Kamiakin senior Juan Hoffman was outstanding at 126 pounds, pinning all three of his opponents, including Sunnyside junior Jesse Denson in 4 minutes, 31 seconds in the final.

Hanford had two champions: senior Caden Wilson at 175 pounds, and junior Asa Knutson at 190. Wilson’s season record is now 43-3.

Sunnyside had two winners in sophomore Kael Campos at 157 pounds, and junior Samuel Valencia at 113.

Chiawana will advance 11 wrestlers to the state tournament.
