Chiefs’ Chris Jones claims he will return to team at post-Super Bowl parade rally

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones uttered the most surprising words while celebrating the team’s Super Bowl LVIII title after a parade through Kansas City, saying he’d be returning to the team next season.

Jones, 29, is a free agent this offseason.

“We ain’t done yet!” Jones screamed to fans Wednesday. “Kansas City, we will be back here next year. And for those who want Chris Jones gone, I ain’t going nowhere baby! I will be here this year, next year and the year after.”

Jones then started a “Three-peat” chant with fans.

Chiefs players spoke to thousands of supporters at Union Station following a march through downtown in sunny and mild conditions, with temperatures around 60 and slight winds out of the east.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, donning a red Chiefs jacket while wearing his two previous Super Bowl rings, brought up skeptics when addressing fans.

“They all doubted us. I don’t want to hear any different,” Mahomes said. “But you know who came through in the end? That’s the Kansas City Chiefs.”

Mahomes also said the Chiefs weren’t done winning championships, saying they’d be going for the three-peat next year.

“Don’t get it twisted,” Mahomes said. “We’re doing it three times.”

During his time speaking to fans, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt praised both his coaches and staff, ending with Reid and Mahomes.

Of the Chiefs’ coach, Hunt said, “When you talk about leaders and talk about culture and talk about a champion, it doesn’t get any better than Andy Reid.”

After that, Hunt spoke about the team’s QB, saying, “When the game is on the line, and the whole world is watching, there is nobody better than Patrick Mahomes.”

General manager Brett Veach, during brief comments, held up the Chiefs’ latest championship Lombardi Trophy.

“After the clock struck zero on Sunday in Las Vegas, we actually did get to see what a Chiefs’ down year looks like,” Veach said, “and here it is right here.”

Players had fun along the parade route, which even included Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco, at one point, carrying an actual goat.

KC rapper/singer Tech N9ne performed “KCMO Anthem” and “Red Kingdom” on stage at Union Station.

After that, other dignitaries who spoke on stage were Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas and Missouri Gov. Mike Parson. Fast Life Yungstaz also sang, “Swag Surfin’,” which became a Chiefs sideline anthem throughout the season.

The Chiefs also disclosed some news on parade day, announcing they had signed defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to a contract extension. With Sunday’s victory, Spagnuolo became the first NFL coordinator ever to win four Super Bowl titles.

It was the second straight year the Chiefs celebrated a Super Bowl win with fans downtown. The previous year, Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce called out their “haters,” while Veach boasted that, “In Kansas City, this is what a rebuilding year looks like right here.”

Mahomes, while addressing the crowd in 2023, also offered a prediction.

“We ain’t done yet,” he said. “So I’ll make sure to hit y’all back next year, and I hope the crowd’s the same.”

The star quarterback stuck to his words. And on Wednesday, the city helped him commemorate a title once again.
