Chiefs’ Drue Tranquill is not happy L’Jarius Sneed wasn’t chosen for Pro Bowl

With the announcement of the NFL’s Pro Bowl teams comes polar opposite emotions.

There is joy among those chosen for the All-Star Game along with fans of the player.

But there also is unhappiness from the players who didn’t make the Pro Bowl, along with their teammates and fans.

The latter played out Wednesday night when Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed somehow didn’t make the cut. NFL.com writer Kevin Patra called it the second-biggest snub in the league.

“The 26-year-old corner silences opponents,” Patra wrote. “He’s allowed 5-plus catches and 50-plus yards in a game just twice this season, per Next Gen Stats, and he’s given up ZERO touchdowns in 462 coverage snaps. His -29.7 target EPA is third-best among all CBs in 2023. His play is not just Pro Bowl-worthy — it’s All-Pro quality.”

Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill agrees that Sneed was snubbed, and he expressed his disgust in a post on X.

“L’Jarius Sneed not making the Pro Bowl is an absolute joke!” Tranquill wrote. “You can’t possibly watch the tape & tell me this man isn’t a top four corner in the AFC. Just ask Tyreek Hill, Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, AJ Brown, Davante Adams, Keenan Allen & the rest of the ProBowl WRs ..”

Chiefs fans and others shared similar disgust and surprise that Sneed wasn’t deemed a Pro Bowl player this season. Here is what was being said on X and Reddit.

“This is why the Pro-Bowl is pointless and should have no baring on post career accolades, but voters love to use the number of Pro Bowls in their voting,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “When the best CB in the league who shut down pretty much all of the best WRs in the game and didnt allow a single TD dont get in outside of being an alternate, it shows how truly stupid the leagues fans are. Top 5 defense and only Chris Jones gets in?”

Another joked: “Ja’marr Chase must have been making these selections.”

“The only attention Sneed gets is negative attention because when a corner locks someone down you don’t see it but he does get penalized a lot which you do see,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “He is definitely a top 3 coverage corner on top of being one of the best and most willing tacklers at the position he definitely deserves a nod but he is just not glamorous enough to get it.”

Another shared this: “Pro Bowl is a glorified popularity contest anyway. Bet we see Sneed as an All Pro. That’s what really matters.”
