Follow the Chiefs’ latest moves on Day 3 of free agency: Nick Allegretti returns

The Chiefs on Friday enter the third day of the NFL’s new calendar year, and with it free agency.

On Friday, the Chiefs took care of one of their own by re-signing backup center/guard Nick Allegretti to a one-year deal.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach used the past week to address both sides of the ball on the open market and handled more in-house matters with qualifying tenders on a restricted free agent and three exclusive-rights free agents.

• The Chiefs are signing former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Drue Tranquill to a one-year contract, sources familiar with the situation confirmed with The Star. Tranquill projects to add depth behind starters Nick Bolton, Willie Gay Jr. and Leo Chenal, while also contribute on special teams. The Score first reported the news on Tranquill’s signing.

• The Chiefs are signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Mike Edwards to a one-year deal, sources familiar with the situation confirmed with The Star. Edwards fills a need in the wake of Juan Thornhill signing with the Cleveland Browns in free agency, and should see playing time in the Chiefs’ three-safety packages.
