Child dies three days after two-vehicle crash in Kansas City, drivers both injured

The 7-year-old passenger critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday in Kansas City has died.

A vehicle was headed eastbound on 23rd Street Trafficway and Stark Avenue when it ran off the road onto a dirt shoulder lane, according to a news release from the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver then overcorrected, causing the car to slide across the center median where it was hit on the passenger side by another vehicle.

All three people in the crash were taken to the hospital. The child and driver of the second vehicle were both in critical condition, according to Capt. Jacob Becchina.

The child died on Thursday.

This marks the 14th traffic-related fatality of 2024, according to police.
