Child struck on leg during Belfast Glider attack

A child was struck on the leg during an attack on a Glider bus in Belfast on Friday, police have said.

Officers added they would be stepping up patrols in the west of the city after reports of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour.

Just after 16:00 BST, they said youths were reported on top of a Glider in the Stewartstown Road area.

After 19:00 a stone or rock struck a vehicle, breaking the window and hitting the child.

“Thankfully, medical attention was not required and our investigation is continuing at this time to determine exactly what happened," Ch Insp Conway said.

“Those involved in this type of behaviour need to be aware of the seriousness of their actions.

“Even a small stone can shatter a windscreen, obstruct the view of the driver and cause a collision that could result in serious injury or even death."

Police said members of its safe transport team will be in the area over the weekend "to prevent reoccurrences of any such reports".
