CHP helicopter rescues skier stranded overnight at Kirkwood Ski Resort in Amador County

The California Highway Patrol rescued a skier Sunday after he became stranded overnight at a ski resort in Amador County.

The man skied outside of the designated route at the Kirkwood Ski Resort and became stranded south of Thunder Mountain and west of Thimble Peak on Saturday, according to the CHP and flight records from flightradar24.com. The CHP’s helicopter found the stranded skier around 11 p.m. but couldn’t land or perform a rescue, according to the CHP’s Valley Division.

Officers returned by air and on foot Sunday morning and hiked about a half-mile to the skier. The man, who was not identified, didn’t need medical attention and was taken back to the Kirkwood Ski Resort, the CHP said.
