Christopher Nolan has 'no guilt' about being a 'Fast & Furious' fan
  • Christopher Nolan professed his fandom for the "Fast & Furious" franchise on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

  • "A tremendous action franchise," he told Colbert.

  • Nolan recommended starting with "Tokyo Drift."

Even the great auteurs love a good popcorn movie now and again.

For Christopher Nolan, it's the "Fast & Furious" movies.

In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show," the "Oppenheimer" director expounded on his love for "the family."

"I have no guilt about being a fan of the 'Fast & Furious' franchise," Nolan said at the 2:50 mark. "A tremendous action franchise."

Colbert then admitted he's never seen a "Fast & Furious" movie.

"You've never seen any of them?" Nolan asked in shock. "I watch those movies all the time. I love them. I'm amazed you've never seen one of them."

Colbert then tried to get Nolan to watch all 10 movies in the franchise with him in one sitting, but the filmmaker said that wasn't necessary.

"It's only the last few where a specific arc and mythology develop," Nolan said. "I would start with 'Tokyo Drift' and watch it as its own thing. To warm you up."

The "Fast & Furious" franchise has made over $7 billion at the worldwide box office (counting its spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw"). The next installment will be released in 2025.

And this reporter can confirm that Nolan's love affair with the "Fast" franchise is real. At last year's CinemaCon, I witnessed Nolan and "Fast" star Tyrese Gibson having a lengthy chat during a party held by Universal.

My only guess is Nolan was peppering the actor with questions about what's coming next in the franchise.
