CK Police make arrests for violence, theft, and public toxication

The Chatham Kent police arrested a man for intimate partner violence, besides making many other arrests of women and men for various crimes.

MAN ARRESTED FOR INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE

The Chatham Kent police arrested a man in connection with an incident of intimate partner violence. Police responded to a disturbance at a residence on Grand Avenue West in Chatham, where they learned that a male suspect had violated court-ordered conditions by attending a woman's residence. The suspect assaulted the woman and her friend, who tried to intervene and caused damage to the residence before fleeing with several of the homeowner's belongings. The suspect, a 19-year-old Chatham man, was located nearby and arrested. He faces multiple charges, including four counts of failing to comply with a release order, assault causing bodily harm, two counts of assault, mischief under $5,000, two counts of theft under $5,000, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He is held in custody pending a bail hearing.

WARRANTS

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 8:02 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person on Merritt Avenue in Chatham. Officers arrested a 28-year-old Chatham man with an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with a probation order. He was processed at police headquarters and released on an Appearance Notice with a future court date.

Later, at 4:26 p.m., a 35-year-old Chatham woman turned herself in at police headquarters on an outstanding bench warrant for failing to attend court. She was arrested and released shortly afterward on an Appearance Notice with a future court date.

BREAK AND ENTER

Two suspects broke into the secure fenced compound of Waste Connections at 91 Sass Road, Chatham. They took several valuable items and caused approximately $400 in damage to the fence.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT WITH WEAPON

At 9:33 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Erie Street South in Merlin. A verbal argument between a man and a woman escalated when the man threw a steel-toed boot at the woman. Further investigation revealed other past incidents of assault. The 39-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and is facing charges including assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, break-and-enter, and two counts of uttering threats. He is held pending a bail hearing.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION

At 10:41 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Manning Drive in Chatham, where a woman was found yelling and banging on doors. The officers located the 19-year-old Chatham woman, who was highly intoxicated and unable to care for herself. She was arrested and held at police headquarters until sober.

MAN ARRESTED FOR BREAK-AND-ENTER

On June 28, 2024, at 1:15 a.m., police responded to a break-and-enter on Dufferin Avenue in Chatham. A man was observed climbing into a residence window using a ladder. The 35-year-old Blenheim man was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including careless storage of a firearm, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm, break-and-enter, failing to comply with a release order, and possession of a firearm/ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. He is held pending a bail hearing.

MAN ARRESTED FOR THEFT

At 2:25 p.m., police responded to a theft of gas on Mill Street in Tilbury. Details of the incident were broadcasted to other officers. At 10:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle was spotted on King Street East in Chatham, and the driver fled on foot but was apprehended after a short pursuit. The 37-year-old Chatham Kent man was arrested and faces charges including failing to comply with an undertaking, theft, possession of stolen property, traffic violations, and failure to attend court. He is held pending a bail hearing.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR THEFT

Police responded to a shoplifting investigation at a business on St. Clair Street near McNaughton Avenue in Chatham. Surveillance footage identified a woman who had concealed items on her person and left the store without paying. On June 25, 2024, the 39-year-old Walpole Island woman was located and arrested on King Street East in Chatham. She was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and released with conditions and a future court date of July 29, 2024.
