Clemson offensive lineman stepping away from football

A Clemson football offensive lineman is stepping away from the game.

Scholarship lineman Bryn Tucker moved on from the program following the 2023 season and is now looking into another career path, his father, Mike, told The State on Monday after Tucker wasn’t listed on the team’s updated roster for 2024.

Tucker played 136 snaps across 20 games as a backup offensive lineman during his four-year Clemson career. Since he redshirted the 2020 season and also played during the 2021 “COVID year” season, Tucker had up to two years of eligibility remaining if he’d chosen to continue his career at Clemson or elsewhere.

Coming out of Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic, Tucker ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 286 overall player in the Class of 2019. As a redshirt junior in 2023, he wasn’t listed on the team’s two-deep depth chart and played nine offensive snaps in three games. He played a career-high 68 snaps over six games in 2021.

Tucker participated in Clemson’s Senior Day festivities and graduated from the school last month with a degree in criminal justice, so his departure wasn’t entirely unexpected. Tucker was one of two linemen to step away from the team after 2023, as John Williams (also a redshirt junior) has medically retired.

Coach Dabo Swinney fired former offensive line coach Thomas Austin after the 2023 regular season and replaced him with Matt Luke, a former national championship-winning Georgia offensive line coach and Ole Miss head coach entering his first season.
