Who will be the Coast’s best offensive football player during the 2023 season? Vote now

Picayune’s Christopher Davis runs the ball down the field during the 5A State Championship at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022.

The high school football season is quickly approaching as summer camps are in full swing across South Mississippi.

As always, the Gulf Coast is full of offensive talent from Picayune to Ocean Springs and from Stone to Gautier.

Now is your chance to name the Sun Herald fan’s choice Offensive Preseason Player of the Year for the 2022 season. Ten players from 10 schools are up for the preseason honor.

The poll is not an exact science and you can vote as many times as you like. The poll closes at noon on Aug. 7.

Get to know the players here:

  • Connor Tice, Stone: Tice is the Mississippi Coast’s leading returning passer after throwing for 2,049 and 26 touchdowns as a junior.

  • Chris Davis, Picayune: The Stanford commit ran for 1,078 yards last season and has over 2,000 rushing yards in his career. He’s aiming for career-highs as Picayune’s featured back in 2023.

  • Zach Gullung, Hancock: Gullung is the Coast’s leading returning rusher after picking up 1,456 yards and 13 touchdowns a season ago.

  • Noreel White, St. Martin: The athletic Arkansas commit will be lining up behind center this season as St. Martin’s quarterback, which will put the ball in the hands of one of the state’s top athletes on every play.

  • Kelvin Beavers, Gautier: With the departures of AJ Phillips and Dillon Alfred, Beavers will be the top receiver in Gautier’s pass-first attack.

  • Will Smith, Ocean Springs: Smith returns after an injury derailed his sophomore season. In just five games, Smith ran for 609 yards and eight touchdowns on 9.7 yards per carry.

  • Terry Patton, Pass Christian: The athletic senior is poised for a breakout season after hauling in 32 catches for 494 yards last year. Patton also has 408 rushing yards to his name.

  • Zach Marlin, Biloxi: Marlin threw for 1,417 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago, along with seven rushing scores. Marlin will be surrounded by playmakers again in ‘23, even with the loss of Duran Parish.

  • Cam Joseph, Gulfport: Another receiver primed for a big season, Joseph caught 35 passes for 678 yards and seven scores last year.
