‘Cobra Kai’ Final Season Trailer: Daniel-San Uncovers Mr. Miyagi’s (Literally) Buried Secrets

The “Karate Kid” story just won’t stay down on the mat.

On Monday, Netflix released the trailer for the first part (of three!) of the final season of “Karate Kid” sequel series “Cobra Kai.” There’s kicking and punching and board-breaking (and one 4×4 karate-chopped in half) and all of that, but the preview’s cliffhanger teases the uncovering of Mr. Miyagi’s (Pat Morita, who passed way before “Cobra Kai” launched) buried secrets. And we do mean buried — they’re in a clearly constructed crawl space under the floor in what appears to be Daniel-san’s (Ralph Macchio) dojo. There’s even a giant non-flush pull ring on top. We guess the LaRusso’s never vacuumed.

Speaking of, what is next for Miyagi-Do/Cobra Kai/whatever the hell they’re calling themselves these days? Well, after several films and five seasons of television across two streamers (“Cobra Kai” was originally a YouTube Red series), we’ve finally moved on from the All-Valley Tournament. So the logical next step beyond a local San Fernando Valley karate tournament is some sort of world championships, obviously.

“The Sekai Taikai Tournament is coming,” Johnny (William Zabka) says in the trailer, “now is not the time to puss out.”

Yeah, you’re gonna need to not be…that word…to take on Sensei Kreese’s (Martin Kove) new class of ruffians. We’re not sure about the full rag-tag squad working on their sweep kicks from Daniel, Amanda (Courtney Henggeler), Samantha (Mary Mouser), and Anthony’s (Griffin Santopietro) backyard, but Hawk’s (Jacob Bertrand) new mohawk colors are certainly ready for the international competition.

Since it wouldn’t be the “Karate Kid” universe without some ridiculous training methods, here are a select few from the new batch of episodes: dodging beer bottles loaded into a Jugs machine, punching baseballs as they fly at you in a batting cage, and some “Rocky IV”-esque deforestation.

Part 1 of the sixth season of “Cobra Kai” comes out on July 18. Watch the trailer here:

“Cobra Kai” Season 6 is the first time Netflix has ever divided a season up into three parts (two is pretty commonplace these days). Part 2 premieres November 28, 2024; and finally, Part 3 (dubbed “The Finale Event”) will have to wait for 2025. We do not yet have a specific date for the final one-third.

“Cobra Kai” is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg via their production company Counterbalance Entertainment. Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett executive produce for Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios, along with Susan Ekins in association with Sony Pictures Television. Stars Macchio and Zabka also serve as executive producers.

“Cobra Kai” also stars Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, Gianni DeCenzo, Vanessa Rubio, Dallas Dupree Young, Yuji Okumoto, Alicia Hannah-Kim, and Oona O’Brien.
