How cold will it be on Halloween in Modesto — and how late can my kids be out?
The spookiest night of the year is Tuesday, and Modesto neighborhoods will soon be filled with families going house to house for Halloween fright and fun.
Before you head out for the holiday, here’s what to know, including the forecast, curfew rules and what there is to do:
The Modesto forecast
Highs for Halloween day in Modesto will be near 71 degrees, with calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the morning, according to the National Weather Service.
It’ll cool down in the evening, with a low of around 45 degrees and northwest wind 3 to 6 mph.
Dry conditions are expected for the entire day.
Things to do in Modesto
Some Modesto coffee shops are serving seasonal drinks, where you can fill yourself with fall-flavored fuel before hitting the streets on Halloween.
Modesto’s Dutch Hollow Farms will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., though their trunk or treat has been canceled. See everything one Modesto Bee reporter was able to do at the farm with her niece with $20 and an hour.
Other local farms, movie theaters and haunted houses are participating in the festivities and will be open through Halloween.
If you haven’t yet filled your candy bucket, some Modesto stores are offering deals.
Rules of Halloween
It’s a Halloween tradition to end the night with a candy-filled pail. But there may be some rules in California you should know before trick-or-treating.
For example, if your child wants to go trick-or-treating alone, be aware that different cities enforce curfews for minors without an adult or guardian.
In Modesto, the curfew for minors under the age of 18 is 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., said Sharon Bear, a spokeswoman with the Modesto Police Department. Minors under 16 years old have a curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Aside from this, there’s no law on how old you need to be to trick-or-treat and what age kids can go out alone.
