Collision causes New Circle Road to be shut down during rush hour Tuesday afternoon

The inner loop of New Circle Road was shut down at Richmond Road Tuesday afternoon because of a crash between Richmond Road and Alumni Drive.

The Lexington Fire Department was called to the scene of the collision at 4:06 p.m., according to the department’s dispatch website. New Circle Road had reopened by about 5 p.m., said Lexington Fire Department Major Derek Roberts.

Multiple vehicles were involved, according to Lexwrecks, which provides information from the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

Roberts said the collisions “appear to be minor,” but the incident was expected to have a “significant impact on rush hour traffic.”

Lexington Police Department Lt. Dillan Taylor said one person was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.
