Here come the dupes. Taylor Swift’s KU gear from ‘Fortnight’ challenge fires up trend

Taylor Swift wore a KU sweatshirt in her “’Fortnight’ challenge” video that dropped on Friday, and in a flash Swifties ran to the internet to find it.

Alas, it was a one-of-a-kind garment from an eco-friendly Canadian clothing company. Swift got the only one.

But today, the dupes are popping up like dandelions.

As of Tuesday, at least three companies had versions of the sweatshirts on their websites. Lifestyle brand Nouvette in Gary, Indiana beat everyone to the punch on Monday.

Overwhelming requests for the sweatshirt gave Frankie Collective in Vancouver, British Columbia, the chance to tell its story of how it reworks vintage clothing into new garments, a message it was happy to amplify Monday on Earth Day.

“The power of social media!” the company posted on LinkedIn.

“Taylor Swift was seen in one of our one-of-one, rework garments featuring the University of Kansas Jayhawks. As you can imagine, our inbox has been overflowing with requests.

“The more important piece ... to highlight is that everyone is asking about our story, our journey and how they too can purchase rework garments to lessen their environmental impact. Taylor may have been seen in it, but the Frankie Collective story tells itself..”

Swift’s sweatshirt cost $65. The dupes are less expensive.

Nouvette’s T-shirt, sweatshirt and hoodie versions range from about $33 to $51 depending on size and style. (A women’s small sweatshirt like Swift’s is $38.95.)

Rockatee in Sarasota, Florida, has the “Taylor KU Vintage Sweatshirt” for $38.95.

Lelemoon, a small company in Marshall, Texas, has the sweatshirt for $41.95.

Forgive us for thinking that someone at Lelemoon is a KU grad. Check out the spiel describing the garment.

“The iconic crimson and blue of this Taylor Wearing KU University Of Kansas Sweatshirt embodies the spirit of a legendary university. Slip it on and feel the surge of Rock Chalk pride, connecting you to a legacy of excellence and a passionate community,”

Swift started all this by accepting her own “Fortnight” challenge to fans Friday. She posted a YouTube Short showing 14 brief glimpses — a fortnight is 14 days — into her life.

“Fortnight” is the name of the lead single on her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” The song’s video featuring Post Malone also premiered Friday.

Swifties went bonkers when boyfriend Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs showed up in her challenge video giving Swift a kiss in the kitchen.

Swift wearing a KU sweatshirt as she sat at a table sewing ignited a bit of jealousy from Swifties who cheer for the University of Missouri and questions about why she was repping Kansas.

(Here we go: Yes, the Chiefs play on the Missouri side.)

Hardcore Swifties know that her affection for KU is longstanding, how the star, right as she was becoming famous, visited the campus in Lawrence in 2009 when her best friend Abigail Anderson was a freshman there.

“If you could travel to any place in the world or go back to a place that you have been,” a reporter once asked a young Swift.

“Kansas,” Swift answered quickly before the reporter finished the question.

“I love Kansas. a big day off would be going to visit my best friend Abigail in Lawrence, Kansas. She goes to Kansas University so, basically, that’s my best friend since I was 15 and I love going to visit her.

“It’s this little college town and it’s kinda fun because you always kind of wonder about the path you didn’t take and the path I didn’t take was going to college. And when I have days off I like to go and visit Abigail and kinda experience college without actually having to take tests and study.”

Taylor Swift. KU folklore.
