Comedian Paul Rodriguez promised earlier this month a comedy show in the Central Valley without controversy.
Rodriguez delivered a “free comedy show” last Sunday at Porterville’s Eagle Mountain Casino, two weeks after comedian George Lopez walked off stage during a sold-out show at the same venue early this month, disappointing fans. The incident made national news and the casino refunded ticket holders.
Rodriguez was in the Valley not only to perform at the casino but was a special guest at Friday’s Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation gala.
The 69-year-old Rodriguez, who has ties to the Central Valley, performed in front of more than 1,000 fans who received free tickets.
Attendees praised Rodriguez on social media on how the comedian not only delivered a show but went out in the audience, interacting with fans and posing for photos.
Eight days after Lopez walked away from his Eagle Mountain Casino show, the casino posted a video on social media platforms from Rodriguez.
“We just received a video from the Legendary Comedian/Actor Paul Rodriguez! He says he will be in town on the 23rd of this month, what do you all think? Should we take him up on the offer?” read the post that had more than 400 shares and about 425 comments in support of Rodriguez.
In the video’ Rodriguez said friends from the Central Valley called him about the “negativity” going on.
Rodriguez didn’t mention Lopez by name nor the incident at the casino.
“No drama in my cama,” said Rodriguez, adding that he called his “good friends” at the casino and proposed that he do “a comedy show without controversy.”
“I’ll show you a good time. You know, if I can’t make you laugh, I’ll do your laundry, and I’ll do mine too, and your neighbors. You know, for a few dollars, I’m very affordable,” Rodriguez joked in the video.
