Today, Max, the merged rebrand of HBO Max and Discovery+, announced that it is currently developing a new drama series set in "The Conjuring" universe. The universe was hatched back in 2013, has eight movies under its belt and is officially the highest-grossing horror franchise to date. Creator James Wan and producer Peter Safran will serve as executive producers on the upcoming Max exclusive series.

Where can you watch the new 'The Conjuring' series?

You will be able to stream "The Conjuring" drama series with a Max subscription. Max is currently only available in the United States and certain U.S. territories and can be accessed with an internet connection through Android products, Roku, Chromecast, iOS, some gaming consoles and certain smart TV platforms.

Max is home to HBO films and series, Max Original series and films, DC movies and shows, TCM content, the Adult Swim Collection, Studio Ghibli films, Cartoon Network’s vast catalog, the Sesame Workshop collection, Looney Tunes and more. The platform is constantly releasing new content, such as "The Last of Us," "House of the Dragon" and more.

What is the new 'The Conjuring' series about?

"The Conjuring" is partly inspired by the investigations of paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren, who investigate everything from demons to ghosts and even possessed dolls.

At the moment, little is know about the plot of the new "The Conjuring" series, but it will continue the established stories featuring the Warrens from the films. James Wan, who has directed five of the eight films in the franchise is in talks to executive produce. There are eight films that take place in "The Conjuring" universe including:

  • "The Conjuring" (2013)

  • "Annabelle" (2014)

  • "The Conjuring 2" (2016)

  • "Annabelle: Creation" (2017)

  • "The Nun" (2018)

  • "The Curse of La Llorona" (2019)

  • "Annabelle Comes Home" (2019)

  • "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" (2021)

As of April 12, you can stream "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" and "The Nun" on Max. The next film installment, "The Nun 2" will be released in theaters on the same day as the new series, Friday, September 8, 2023.

How can you sign up for HBO Max?

HBO Max is rebranding to simply Max starting May 23. It will remain home to all HBO original movies and series, as well as a library of popular films and shows, including "The Last of Us" and "Succession." You can sign up for Max on its own and access it through HBO’s website, or download the app to supported devices through your TV, digital or mobile provider. A standalone Max subscription starts at $9.99/month or $99.99/year for the Ad-Lite tier. To get the ad-free tier, you'll pay $15.99/month, or $149.99/year. There is also a third "Ultimate Ad-Free" tier that will be available starting May 23, which will cost $19.99 per month.

Max is home to HBO content and series such as "Insecure," "Watchmen," "Succession" and "The Last of Us." The platform hosts movies, series and documentaries from many other sources, from films like "Howl’s Moving Castle," "The Matrix" and the Lord of the Rings trilogy to series like "Doctor Who," "Steven Universe" and many more.
